Hello,
I'm new to this group, so any help would be greatly
appreciated. I have protected several columns in excel and
I have found that the cells that are not "protected" are
to some affect protected. The cell that I have indicated
not to be protected have the format option grayed out. Can
I protected the sheet and still allow certain cells to be
formatted in Excel 2000?

Thanks.

Ed

This is how Excel behaves: if the sheet is protected NO cells can be
formatted even the unlocked ones.
However in Excel2002, you have the option of allowing formatting but it
applies to all cells: protected and unlocked

Best wishes
