EW won't uninstall after cloning to new drive & VBScript runtimeerror when trying to use msicuu2

R

Ron S

Good morning everyone,

I am hoping that someone can with a couple of problems that I am
having, I have asked the members over at the EW forum however this
problem looks like it may be exceeding the scope of EW.

A few weeks ago I downloaded the trial version of Microsoft Expression
Web, a week or so later I purchased a new WD hard drive (I only had 3g
left on my old one). When I installed my new drive I cloned the
contents from my old drive using the WD software and also made my new
drive the master and my old drive the slave.

After I cloned my drive I started having problems with opening EW,
the installer wanted to install for a second or two then EW would open
only to have about 10% of the features available. At this point I
tried to uninstall EW and I received an error saying that the
installer was not able to completely uninstall. I have also attempted
to install a fresh copy of EW over my current copy and the installer
encounters a problems and needs to close, so that idea went out the
window.

One of the members of Microsofts EW forum suggested that I use the
"msicuu2" tool, when I downloaded this tool and attempted to install
it I received the following error:

Script: C:\Docume~!\*********\Locals~!Temp\IXP000.TMP\Startmsi.vbs
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: ActiveX component can't create object:
'Scripting.FileSystemObject'
Code: 800A01AD
Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error

After doing a couple of hours of research of this specific error, none
of the answers appear to be specific to my problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what my next step should be the
fix this problem.

TIA,

Ron

Ramesh,

Sorry for the typo, the following is the error I receive during the
Windows Script 5.6 install:

Error registering the OCX C:\WINDOWS\system32\scrrun.dll

After I select the OK button the next pop-up tells me that the Windows
Script 5.6 has been installed. I have tried using the msicuu2 tool and
the same error occurs. I am also still not able to uninstall EW.

I am also considering completing a repair install, do you think that
this may help these specific problems?

Thanks again,

Ron

Ron,

Tried the regsvr32 command as stated in the article?

If so, post the exact error code/message you received when running the command.

Sorry for the delay Ron... caught up into a web host migration problems! <sigh>

Glad you got this fixed after a repair install! FYI, 0x80004005 is caused due to incorrect registry permissions. Fixing up the permissions for a couple of keys would have resolved the problem.

Ramesh,

You are correct, I ended up having to use a full permission script in
command prompt to solve the permission issue. I am glad that you were
able to take care of your host migration issue.

By an off chance do you happen to know anything about OneCare, I
finally received the copy I ordered last week, the installation goes
off without a hitch however I am not able to open the console, when I
try to open it I receive "Windows Live OneCare encountered a problem
and has to close". OneCare is still running in the background, it is
just he console that is the problem. I have tried everything listed
for this error in the OneCare forums to no prevail, just waiting for
MS tech support to email me.

Thanks,

Ron
