I'm big time computer dummy. my laptop was fine, but now for some reason
everything is large. IE and windows, the view is too big, like everything is
magnified. I tried the display settings etc. that I found in help topics. The
only thing I can get smaller is text. Please help a hopeless dummy.

First, what changed between the time things worked and the time they
didn't? If the change was sudden and not long ago, try a System Restore
to when things worked.

Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
"Restore my computer to an earlier time".

If that doesn't help, reinstall your video card drivers. Since you have
a laptop, get the drivers from the laptop mftr.'s support website for
your specific model machine. If you think you installed drivers from
Windows Update, then try rolling them back before you install new ones.

If you do all that and still don't have any luck, your video device may
have failed. You may want to take the laptop to a local professional
for diagnosis or just call the laptop's tech support.

It seems your screen resolution mau have been changed. Right click the
Desktop, select "Properties" and then the "Settings" tab. Resolution should
generally be either: 1024x768 or 960x800 (or near). If that doesn't work,
check your Graphics card by clicking on "Advanced" from the same "Settings"
tab. Look for "Screen Resolution & Refresh Rates".

Hope this helps,

Ed

Here is what the OP said in his/her first post:

I'm sorry, but to me that meant s/he had tried to change the resolution
without any success. I guess your crystal ball is better than mine.

These OPs throw a person almost second every time with their weird wording,
don't they? To be honest, "System Restore" was the first idea I had too. It
wasn't until I read "Ed O'Brian's" reply that I realize the OP had duped me.
But since you had already incorrectly replied, I realized I had a wonderful
opportunity to take you down a peg. And on top of it all, to my delight,
your being wrong here seems to have knocked you silly .. ha ha .. Heck
you're even talkin about my crystal balls now. But wrong again, they ain't
crystal. So quit kneeling in front of me trying to size 'em or sniff or
whatever it is that interests you down there, stand up and get back to work
... and no more talking about my balls.
