I am running a Toshiba loptop with XP Home. Upon boot up
I get a dialog box that says "Windows cannot open this
file: Microsoft Office.Ink. All program icons display
the dogeared white page symbol with program name followed
by the ".Ink" extension. I cannot open any programs.
The "My Computer" and "Network" icons are there but
says "folder". The only items that displays correctly
are the "My Documents" and "Recycle Bin" icons. I don't
know what happened. I cannot boot the the XP CD. I can
open it, but thats about it.(Setup.exe won't run). I
tried safe mode with command prompt, but anything I try
says the path cannot be found. How can I recover from
this mess? (since I cant open the program list, I can't
use system restore.)

I desperately need help!!!!!!

TIA

.
Hold down Ctrl key and click Esc key (Ctrl + Esc) that
will give you the Start menu and access to All
Programs/Accesssories/System Tools/Restore.
Hope it will correct your problem. You created it, you
must resolve it!

I can use the start button, but when i click "all
programs" it won't list the programs. Help & Support,
Run, and Search have all dissappeared. Control Panel is
showing, but cannot open anything). The 6 frequently use
programs on the left are listed with no icon and
the ".Ink" extension.

Thanks Kelly for the links and help. The problem I'm
having is I can't access the internet. I save the fixes
to a flash drive a tried to run them from the laptop.
They won't run, I get the message "Windows cannot open
the file "exefix.reg" I try the "Use the web service to
find..." then a file download box comes up with
file "name:redir.xml From:shell.windows.com", hit open
and get "cannot open this file: redir.xml, probably
because I can't access the internet. Is there another
way to run these files? If I try to run them from a
networked computer, such as the one I'm using to find a
solution, to the laptop, all I see from the network drive
on the laptop is the dogeared white page
symbol "target.ink" If it help the "Help &
Support", "Search", and "Run" have dissappeared from the
Start menu, and the 6 frequently used programs on the
left side have the white page symbol with program name
with the .Ink extension.

Thanks,

Charlie

Kelly is the one who can offer the best help. However, you really
should understand that the shortcut extension is .LNK (link), not INK.
