Wendy: are the keyboard and mouse pluged in
snugly on the computer?... if so, you may need to
install the right driver for the keyboard, some drivers
controll both the keyboard and the mouse, that may
be the reason the mouse freezes when you touch
any key. Here are a few options to correct that
problem.
Change the mouse driver for one that controlls the mouse
only... also change the keyboard driver..
you can do that in Desktop\My PC\properties\
Device Manager\Mouse and other pointer devices\properties\
Update driver\select autoinstall the driver (recommended)
if it doesn't autoinstall go back and select install from a list or
specific location (advanced)>next\Do not search i will select the
controller to be installed>next\ only compatable drivers are in
view and probably either will do but make the most logical
selection according to make and model. You may have to restart
the computer for the change to take effect.
If none of the available drivers bring a solution, search for the
right controllers for both the mouse and keyboard at Windows
Update in Administrators Options or at a driver download site.

Still another option is to let the system select the right driver and
autoinstall either the mouse or the keyboard and maybe both...
here are a few links that describe this and how to do it.
