Every time I move a desktop icon, a copy is created

This is so strange. I created some shortcut of icons in the start/programs
menu
so that when I dragged them off onto desktop, I would still have a shortcut
when
I went to start/programs. But now, every time I try to move an icon,
instead of
moving, another copy of that icon short cut is created where I tried to
reposition
the icon. What could cause this????

Thanks

Possibly mouse settings and or the mouse itself.

See if your CTRL key is pressed, may be a keyboard problem.
Try pressing CTRL and ALT keys few times.

It could be a stuck ctrl key on the keyboard. Turn the keyboard upside
down and persuade any dirt to come out, put it back the right way up and
press the ctrl key a few times quickly. If that doesn't cure it then try
another keyboard.
