Event Viewer on Windows 2000 Adv server SP4

P

Event Viewer is unable to display any of the logs
(application, security, system, Directory Service, File
Replication Service, or the system log) when accessed
through the Start>Programs>Administrative Tools\Event
Viewer.

When accessed through Computer Management, initially
displays the application, the security, the directory
service, and file replication logs but is not able to
display the system log. Once the system log is accessed
the other logs then cannot be viewed.

Server is Windows 2000 Adv SP4. Appreciate any input.
Thanks.

The temporary fix;
You might try changing the file properties to "Overwrite as needed"

Else; Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General,
set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete (or move)
the corrupt *.evt file(s) from %windir%\system32\config then set the Event
Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart for effect.

The more permanent fix;
