Duhhh, no offense, but, did you READ the message you posted? It "means"
just what it "says" and is pretty clear. Jeez!

Have you checked the hard drive?

I would try HD Tune (freeware).
Download and run it and see what it turns up.
http://www.hdtune.com/

Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive letter
and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message.

Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy to
Clipboard ) and copy into a further message.

Also do a full surface scan with HD Tune.

What is the make and model of the hard drive?

Hope this helps.

What is your Harddisk 4? Is that a USB 2 device connected to a USB 1
interface (or vice versa?) Check the list of your devices through:
Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager

According to disk manage, there isn't a D: drive, windows exploro seem to
hold that open is case I insert my USB 1 gig mem stick ----- and have no
understanding why I'm getting this error.

As far as USB 1 or 2, my mobo is 4 yrs old and is probably USB 1, since I
run XP pro with SP2, it would appear that MS would have installed the uSB 2
drivers if it was ness. --- other wise, how would I up-date this issue.
