Event Viewer filter settings keep reverting to default

I'd like to change the filter setting in event viewer our Win2k box.
However everytime I do this, the settings seem to revert back to default the
next time event viewer is opened. E.g. I just want to 'disable' Success
Auditing so that the logs dont fill up as quickly, so I uncheck that option
...but next time I start event viewer the option is ticked again

Any ideas guys ?

My advice: Change the audit settings in Group Policy to only audit failures
