Event Viewer date problem

While investigating a Windows Explorer crash I was "invited" to the
'Microsoft Online Crash Analysis - response'
While trying to follow it's advice I am led to the 'Event Viewer'. I am
asked to identify the most recent error, but the only dates I have end in
January 2004 and I have a few in 2033!!!
I conclude the Event viewer has been deactivated since Jan 2004 and the 2033
problems occured before the PC clock was set.
Could you please guide me to reactivating the viewer so I can maybe sort out
my crash problems.
Thanking you in anticipation

Click Start, Run (Type) Eventvwr.Msc [Enter]
When the console view opens, you might want to maximize it.
At the Bottom-Right corner of the Window click "Standard" view.
Services will be shown in alphabetical order. Locate Event Log.
Ensure that the service mode startup type is Automatic and the
status is Started. If not double-click the Event Log service and
when the details box opens you can change the Startup mode
and then the Start button.
After starting the log, you probably should clear all existing logs
so fresh data can be captured.

When you boot your computer press the DEL key to enter the BIOS settings and
make sure your system is set for the correct date and time.
This should fix the 2033 error log problem.

Thank you for your interest.
The first action started well but I think my Event Viewer window is
different to what you are expecting.
I only have information at the top left of the screen.
I have File/Action/View and Help
Under that is 'Event Viewer (Local)' with three sections
Application/Security and System along with their 'Type' and 'Description',
there is no other information.
I'm unable therefore to complete your remaining actions.
If you can understand where my system differs, and can help I am most
grateful.

when you need to run Services.msc instead to verify that you have the
Event Logging service running.
