Event logs are empty

On my Windows 2000 Server machine, when I go into eventvwr, I can't see the log data
It says there are 0 events in each log file. When I change the FILTER, it then says "Filtered view showing 0 of 778 events
No matter how I jack with the viewing/filtering settings, or if I open an old log file, I still can't SEE the logs
I have also rebooted the server, and it didn't fix the problem

Also, when I clear the logs, and I choose a filtered view, I can tell it is taking log data down
