Event Logger

I have the same problem as the other questions asked with the event logger
error.

You mention on one of the other questions that by going into event viewer
you are able to see what items are causing the problem, they only thing is i
dont understand what they mean:

I have errors with the following sources:
Perfctrs 3101
Winmgmt 37

Any ideas??

Thanks

A message saying "cannot open event logger" when Win2000 boots up with a
blank blue screen, by pressing ctrl+alt+del i then goto Task
Manager|File|New Task and enter %systemroot%\explorer.exe - as ive read in
some of the other threads and then open Event Viewer.

2 errors are then displayed under the application page
Perfctrs 3101
Winmgmt 37

Unfortunately i dont understand what they mean or how to correct them.

Appears to be a yet unknown virus.

Try;
<Ctl><Shift><Esc> to start Task Manager then File|New Task
%systemroot%\explorer.exe
Does the desktop load? If so then using Windows Explorer look for a second
copy of "explorer" in the "Windows" directory. (probably without an
extension) If you find this duplicate file, then move the file to another
location. Does this help?

Please post back what you find.

I found the rogue "explorer" file in the windows file and
have moved it out, and now it works fine!!. Would it
cause any trouble if i were to delete it?

Thanks for your help.

No, I would go ahead and delete it. Thanks for letting us know the results.
Before you delete it would you mind to right-click on the file
Properties|Version and paste all of the version details in a reply?
