Event Log and EventID

I have developed an application and writing to the event log.

I want to use the eventid to identify certain error conditions. Is
there a standard for this or can I use any eventid.

Jeff,

AFAIK, there is no standard, because the event id alone is not enough to
identify the event type uniquely. It is the event id in conjunction with
the event source which identifies the type of event uniquely.
