I rarely shut my pc off; I normally log off windows to the welcome screen. I
have my monitor set to shut off after 30 minutes. I've not had any problems
with this until recently
I entered my password one morning, and got the message " Loading your
personal settings" as usual, the cursor displays hourglass so I know it's
"busy", then suddenly, the screen kind of blinks momentarily, the hour glass
is gone, and I have to reenter my password. This time it actually logs on to
my desktop. I check my Event Viewer and under Applications Is the following
error:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: EventSystem
Event Category: (50)
Event ID: 4614
Date: 1/13/2007
Time: 5:43:39 PM
User: N/A
Computer: OWNER-381C340C5
Description:
The COM+ Event System detected an inconsistency in its internal state. The
assertion "GetLastError() == 122L" failed at line 201 of
d:\qxp_slp\com\com1x\src\events\shared\sectools.cpp. Please contact
Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Clicking on the "Help and Support" link results in the Normal message: We're
sorry;
there is no additional information about this issue" blah, blah, blah. I
really do not understand why microsoft puts the link there, as 99% of the
time that I click on that link, I get the "We're sorry" message. Sorry, just
a bit frustrated.
Anyway, if I reboot and log on, I have no problem. I, however, do not want
to be forced to either shut down or reboot my pc every time I want to log on.
This all seems to coincide with the 1/10/07 windows updates. I can't be 100%
positive, as I
restored my system from a backup after this happened a couple of times. I
did the windows updates once again ( KB929969(VML), KB890830(windows
malicious software removal), and KB915597( definition update for windows
defender), and the error has returned. I uninstalled KB929969, but am still
getting this error. Could just be a "kwinky dink", I don't know.
Any ideas?
Thanks
