Event Error 1517 - System Hangs on Shut Down

Recently my XP system won't shut down (hung on Saving Your Settings) and
the next time I boot (after a "hard" forced shut down) I get Error 1517
stating that "Windows saved user registry while an application or
service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by
the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded
when it is no longer in use".

How can I track down which application or service is causing this and
resolve the problem?

Thank you for the reply.

I long ago got that program, but still have the recent problem as
described below. Perhaps a new program application that I added since
installing the Hive Cleanup program is causing the problem.

Is there a way to access the Hive Cleanup program's settings and have it
"rescan" my system for new programs, or is that necessary (or even
possible)? Alternatively, should I uninstall the Hive Cleanup program
then re-install it in hopes that it will catch the newer-added program
applications (assuming that's the source of my shutdown problem)? Or am
I going to have to look to some other solution?
