<That's the trouble with Linux. When people talk about it, it's
always, Apart from this thing or that thing, it's great. That's
why I don't use it yet. The little things that don't work.

actually the lan config was because i'm running specified ip's for port
fowarding through my router so a normal user wouldn't have to . and duh ,
rebooted and mouse works great ;-)

<And I write this as someone who is eager to switch to Linux.>

whether you switch to linux is something you will have to decide .however it
is definately worth checking out . it is not an os for geeks only , actually
i'm finding this suse distro to be quite a viable alternative to windows .

will i completely switch over , probably not , but i'll tell you , dont
believe everything you read . great learning experience ;-)

< when using CrossOver for Linux - it loads
just like on a Windows box - so you can use Word, Excel, Power Point...
just bought crossover office myself , but too busy playing with all the
programs that came in the suse package ;-)

<It's always best to know more than one OS, more than one language, more
than one platform and one security method.
couldn't have said it better myself . if for no other reason to be able to
have an intelligent discussion when someone spouts off about the pros and
cons of either windows or linux .

Eff.org and others are winning cases.

Yeah, but Steve's point is a valid one. Just look how long it took to
get Ma Bell.
According to my local news most computers at Purdue University are a
mac.

A lot of universities use Mac, and they made that decision before
Windows 3.1.
Apple, Linux and others are gaining ground agian. If sco lose which I
think they will.

Actual people who use lindows/linspire won't have to worry about Sco
threats, becuase sco has a contract with lindows/linspire.

Yet another reason why most Linux enthusiasts hate Linspire.

"Trustworthy Computing" is only another example of an Oxymoron!
"Produkt-Aktivierung macht frei"

Product validation is aimed at OEMs. By making the consumer aware that they were ripped off MS hopes

a/ They will ask for a legit copy next time they buy a computer.
b/ They'll dob the OEM in to MS.

But essentially it is point A. And they hope it will lead to OEMs not feeling pressured to also pirate to compete with pirating shops.

So far, Mandrake has been the distro I've liked best. When I find
a distro that will run my Win-modem without giving me grief, I
will start using it full-time. It will help if I can run my copy
of MS Office 2000 on Linux, to ease the transition.

the problem with win-modems is the "Win" part ;-) and with the program
crossover office , shouldn't be any problem running ms office ;-)

Were you able to get you winmodem to run with mandrake? I have 9.2
Please, let me know how you did it.

Some Winmodems may have a Linmodem driver. But it is better with the
previous metioned solution of an external modem.
