EU printer refill chip law questions?

I am thinking of buying a colour laser printer and would like to keep print
costs low by refilling the toner cartridges. I have read about a new
european law supposed to come in force in 2006 that would ban the "killer
chip" preventing toner cartridges from being refilled but any real
information about it seems impossible to come by. All articles my searches
bring up are 2 or 3 years old and offer little information.

Has anyone any info about this?. I am reluctant to spring for a new printer
just now when the new law could mean printers that are cheaper to refill are
just around the corner, however if this means that refillable cartridges
will have to be available for current printers buying now could be a good
idea in case new printer prices rise sharply.

All thoughts on the subjest appreciated.

As a guide to which you can fill have a peep at this site, you may
need to navigate to the coloured section.

http://www.refilltoner.com/

I only use a Samsung mono and reffilled that, some laser's contain the
drum in the toner assymbley, you can refill these as many times as you
wish until the toner drum wears out.

It seems to be rather less of an issue with colour lasers, what model(s)
are you looking at?
