Ethernet Cable. Addvice Needed

Simon

I have 2 computer and i want to set-up a LAN so i can play multiplayer games
both computers are running Win XP home edition

one machine has a (sis 900 pci fast Ethernet adapter) the other one has a
(via
Rhine II fast Ethernet adapter)

So my question is do i just need a RJ45 Ethernet Cable to connect them? or
do i need to also get something else?

Regards
Simon

You need a twisted-pair Etherned cable (RJ45 with different wiring on both
ends). This is the only way to connect two computers using Ethernet. If you
think you will need to connect more PCs to your network latter, then a
better solution is to purchase a switch, or a hub, and wire each PC to the
switch/hub with a standard (not twisted) Ethernet cable.

Uhh, no. Twisted pair refers to the cable makeup in the Cat 5 cable, it does not refer to the kind of cable he needs. The cable he
needs is called a crossover. Both straight through Cat 5 and crossover Cat5 are twisted pair.

You are right. Sorry, my mistake.
So Simon, what you need is a crossover CAT5 cable, for directly connecting
two computers...
