Ethernet Adapters

Rainy

A while back my onboard VIA Compatable Fast Ethernet Adapter stopped
working, so I went out and bought a new one.. a Linksys LNE 100TX (v5) Fast
Ethernet Adapter which is enabled in device manager.. I disabled the VIA
COmpatable One, AND when I tried to uninstall it , windows tries to install
it every time I boot up.. What is the best way to handle this? Thanks for
any input.. Rainy..

You'll need to enter your system's BIOS settings and disable the onboard adapter. That way Windows will not detect it upon booting.

Check on the other entries and you will find an item that allows you to
disable the on board Ethernet

Hi Rainy,

Each BIOS is (very) different. When you first enter you usually have main categories to choose, such as Standard CMSO Setup, Power Management Setup, PCI/Plug & Play Setup, and so on.

In mine it's under the Features Setup and listed as Ethernet Device. Just go through each of your headings. Once you find it you'll see it's Enabled. Using the minus or plus keys on your keyboard's number pad you'll be able to change it to Disabled.

Then you'll need to exit BIOS Saving the new settings.

Hope this helps.

I understood you were saying I had to do this.. but where would it be, in
the main, under what name.. I was in there, and didn't see anything..
appreciate any help you can give me.. Would it be listed as Ethernet
Adaptors.. see what I mean, I don't know where? hugs Rainy

Rainy,

Do you know what type/version of BIOS you have? If not, when you boot the machine when the first screen comes up it should say the mfg/version the BIOS is. You can use the pause/break key on your keyboard to stop the system so you can read it if its to fast. Then hit enter to resume.
