Hello!
I've been searching on the net to find the definitive answer but I
couldn't get it. So I'll try here.
I've left the computer on through the night to finish downloading some
stuff.
When I woke up I saw that computer somehow managed to restart itself. The
file of course wasn't downloaded and that made me a bit angry.
When I looked up the Even log I saw this, right before it rebooted:

wuauclt (2096) The database engine 5.01.2600.2180 started.
wuaueng.dll (2096) SUS20ClientDataStore: The database engine started a new
instance (0).
wuaueng.dll (2096) SUS20ClientDataStore: The database engine stopped the
instance (0).
wuauclt (2096) The database engine stopped.

As I could figure out from what I read on the Web, that's Automatic
Updates. Or am I wrong?
I turned them off and today I get these messages again in the event log,
although Auto updates are turned off.
What's the catch?

Thank you for your answers,
Karlo.

You are correct, this is info messages from the WU v5 client, and they
are information entries only (they do not indicate that you have a
problem).

I turned them off and today I get these messages again in the event

Stopping Automatic Updates from the Control Panel applet isn't
sufficient to stop those messages going into your event log.

If you really, really want to get rid of those messages, you
can disable the "Automatic Services" service (through e.g.
Start/Run --> services.msc).

Note that if you do this, even the Windows Update Web page will
not work anymore (for manual scan/install). If you later on want
to use the Windows Update Web page, you can of course temporary
set the service to Automatic again and start the service before
you go to the Web page.
