Is it possible to get the old unix ctl-[ shortcut for Escape?

Is it possible to get the old unix ctl-[ shortcut for Escape?

Does this have anything to do with Word? If yes, what is it you
want to do with this "Escape"?

To bail out of dialog boxes. The Esc key is a little too far off for my
preference. Come to think of it, I once tried assigning a key to Word's
Cancel cmd, but it didn't work. Maybe it's a Windows thing or something.

Yes, unless you're programming your own, there's not much you can do about
this.

One possibility might be to get a keyboard mapping software. You could use
this to assign the ESC key to different key combination that's more
convenient. For example
