Errrors in XPEsp2 MUI components

John Schilling

In my own work I have found that the Danish MUI SP2 component currently,
(05.06.07), available for download is missing files. Since my work is mostly
with Western European/Nordic languages I am hoping that others who are
working in Latin/Asian languages could add their input about any
missing/incomplete MUI-Component issues.

Danish SP2 MUI:

Missing various IE6-related MUI files.
---
BTW: In searching the newsgroup I've noted one posting from
05.06.08--Chinese WMP9 MUI files missing.
---

Other languages--please add in and maybe we can provide Microsoft with a
complete bug report to get this stuff address in one go!

TIA,

Here's some things you can choose to check in case it's not truly missing
files but some weirdness with the component and/or repository.

Note those file name(s) that aren't found during the build, go to the root
of your repository folder (like d:\Windows Embedded Data\Repositories) and
search for the file(s).

If they're truly missing is it possible you removed or didn't install the
SP1 MUI repositories? The SP2 MUI reps contain additional files beyond the
SP1 versions, if the SP1 files didn't change in SP2 then we didn't bring
them forward into the SP2 reps. This means you need the SP1 Danish rep and
SP2 Danish rep in order for your components to find all it's associated MUI
files.

Andy--I'm ahead of you. I've actually locked in the SP2-Danish-MUI's
installer package. The missing files are missing. They are not in the
Microsoft distribution package that is downloaded.from the OEM site.

Now, it is quite possible that I did not install SP1-Danish on this
development machine. That was not a requirement last year. In any case, it
is still an error on the part of the SP2 MUI not to include the files.

Think about the "How to build a working environment from scratch" process as
documented by Microsoft:

(1) XPE SP1 SDK.

(2) XPE SP2 SDK upgrade.

(3) XPE SP2 MUI-components. Now, if the XPE sp2 MUI-components required
the pre-installation of SP1-MUI-Components--then that is a dependency that
they should have checked for in their installer. [also--historically
Microsoft SP's have tended to be cumulative. There is no rational
expectation that the SP1-MUI-component would be required.

(4) Optional Post-SP2 QFE's.

There is no "(1.5) Install SP1 components for which the SP2 components are
file incomplete"--besides other languages: Norwegian, German--do not have
this error!

John,

Did you see Important Note on the http://msdn.microsoft.com/embedded/usewinemb/xp/tools/lang/default.aspx?

Important note: You MUST have the corresponding MUI pack for Windows XP Embedded with SP1 installed prior to importing your SP2 MUI
packs.
