Errors installing Quicktime and Palm desktop

I have a brand new laptop w home premium and get error 2738 when attempting
to install quicktime 7 or palm desktop. It happens in both cases just after
MS installer begins. Since this is a brand new system and both s/w packages
give the same error I'm guessing there's a simple solution.

FYI Palm says the s/w should work on vista and has no idea.

Any help appreciated!

Ok, so this means that I'm not the only person having difficulties
installing Palm Desktop on Vista! I've tried the version that came with my
Zire72 and the latest versions that's on Palm's website.

I emailed Palm and they responded by telling me to bring up msconfig and
disable all my startup items and services, reboot and try again. NO GO! I
got the exact same error message. I've responded to them with my results so
now I'm waiting to hear back from them.

I'll post their findings once I get a response....

Are you sure Palm is saying it will work on Vista? All I see at Palm is
excuses for their software devices not working with Vista.

When the tech emailed me back he made no mention that it wouldn't work on
Vista. Just gave me the instructions that I outlined in the previous post.
Some I'm assuming that it is supposed to work on Vista.

Some things work, but per Palm, the install tool (both of them,
actually) don't work.

Second, you have to be very careful to make sure that you don't ever let
either Palm Desktop or Hotsync run as administrator.

Among other things, this means that when you first install Palm Desktop,
or install any app that installs a conduit, do NOT sync until you close
HotSync and restart it.
