Errors in Master File Table

Ok I am out of ideas.

Win 2000 Server acting as file server & b/u Domain Controller for SBS 2003.
O/S on Mirrored 18.2 SCSI drives
Data on 4 RAID 5 SCSI

Data drives perform very well. O/S drives lag and sometimes freeze. Avg.
Queue Length is over 450.

Ran ScanDisk=OK, HP Insights Management says HD's OK and Controller OK

CHKDSK runs and finds errors. So I run CHDSK /F and reboot. CHKDSK runs on
boot up and says no errors. Windows loads up and I run CHKDSK again, and it
finds errors. i.e..
"Errors in Master File Table (MFT) BITMAP attribute"
"Correcting Errors in the Volume Bitmap"
"Windows found problems with the file system"

I don't know what else to check to fix this problem. I just started at this
company and don't want to rebuild the main file server.

PLease someone help!!

Here is a simple solution:
1. Break the mirror.
2. Format the second hard disk and mark it active.
3. Boot the machine with a Bart PE boot CD (www.bootdisk.com).
4. Use xcopy.exe with the appropriate switches to copy the server
system disk to the newly formatted disk. Use the appropriate
switches to include system and hidden files.
5. Remove the first hard disk and boot with the second disk.
The file system should now be OK.
6. Format the first disk on some other machine.
7. Reinstall the first disk as the second half of the mirror.
8. Rebuild the mirror.

Steps 2 to 8 are zero risk operations. If you're concerned about
damaging your system in Step 1 then you can do this to eliminate
any risk:
a) Disconnect all disks except disk1.
b) Boot the machine with a Win98 boot disk (www.bootdisk.com).
c) Using ptedit.exe
(ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/tools/pq/utilities/),
change the partition type to 07 (NTFS). This operation is reversible if
you memorise the original partition type.
d) Format the second disk on some other PC and mark it active.
e) Continue with Step 3 above.
