I can start up my computer, run winamp/messenger and word and most
applications just fine, but whenever I launch World of Warcraft for instance
my computer seems to just shut down. I went to check the even viewer which
came up with the event in the topic and this text:

The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal
processing. HRESULT was C0000005 from line 44 of
d:\qxp_slp\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact
Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.

I recently installed a new harddisk and a new Graphics processing unit,
could it be because my GPU simply doesn't get enough juice from my
PSU(powersupply)? And would I need to get a new PSU then?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards

Hi Phobic,

Posted by "Anonymous" at eventid.net:

"Error code: C0000005 - I would get this event on every boot, and like
another user who posted here, it was caused by having MSN Messenger 7.5
starting automatically when Windows starts. If I run MSN Messenger after the
boot has completed (i.e. manually start it), there is no COM error recorded.
To disable Messenger from running automatically, open MSN Messenger, and go
to Tools -> Options -> General -> and uncheck 'Automatically run Messenger
when I log on to Windows'."

I do not know if this will resolve your problem with World of Warcraft. If
not, might I suggest that you post the problem in the following newsgroup:

microsoft.public.windowsxp.games

It might help, also, if you clarify the "shuts down my computer" statement.
In your subject line you have stated that your computer shuts down, but in
the body of your post you state that "my computer seems to just shut down".
That makes me think that your computer is not actually shutting down but,
rather, is freezing (i.e., locks up and does not respond to keyboard
commands or mouse clicks).

Regards,

I too get this exact same error in the event log. My computer freezes, the
mouse won't move, keyboard won't work. It's happened a few times now but its
hard to pinpoint a program thats causing this. For example the first time I
was listening to an audio stream via my browser, firefox. The second time
its happened, I was playing Football Manager while watching a stream on
Winamp. Everything just froze. I am running Messenger 7.5 but wasn't
messaging anyone at the time. Any idea's would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Colin
