Error when trying to update excel workbook

I have an access 2003 mdb whereby one excel workbook is linked to.
I created a function that will update (suppose to update) rows in the
workbook.
After having looped thought the records I always get the following error
message:

BAD DLL calling convention.

When I check the workbook it seems to be damaged.
Any help or tips are most appreciated.
