error when trying to install skype

I have had to re format my hard drive and re install Window XP SP2

When i try to download and install skype it displays the following error
message

'Skype.exe is not a vaild Win32 application'

Can anyone suggest how to correct this error.

Have you updated your installation at the Microsoft update website? That
includes the Windows Installer 3.1 which may help you.

Have you tried downloading it again? It might be that your download failed
before it had completed so you've only got a partial executable.
