error upon opening doc.

Why am I not able to directly open a doc. and get this window message:
Cannot find the file ‘ ‘ (or one of its components). Make
sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are
available.
If I open a blank excel and then go to file then open the doc will open.
This just started happening.

Try Tools>Options...>General and un-check 'ignore other applications'
