I've got a windows xp box that for some reason I can't grant any security
rights to individual directories. The windows xp box is completely updated
with all patches available on windowsupdate.

I log on as domain admin (I can succesfully browse any network resource)
then I right click some folder, properties, security and try to add a domain
user. When I enter a user name and click 'check names', I get the following
error "Unable to Lookup user names for display". I found the following
article in microsoft.com/technet (Q272576), but it says it only applies to
win2k and win2k server, not windows xp.....

I've obviously tried rebooting, next step is to reapply service pack 1a and
hope something magical happens....anyone seen anything like this before?

Thanx,
Mischa

Update, reapplying the service pack did a whole bunch of squat.

I mapped a drive (\\compname\c$) and changed the permissions that way. So,
problem is worked around, however, in the future I'll always have to map a
drive to this box to change permissions? ack

Anyone know anything about this issue?

Thanx for any help,
Mischa
