Error: The folder xxx is no longer available

Running FP 2002 from an XP machine to a 2000 server
running IIS 5.0.

When we try to create a link from the client machine in
Front Page the window opens, but only a partial list of
folders/files appear while the hour glass runs. Then an
Error box pops up saying "the folder ... is no longer
available". It will allow me to type in the address
manually and continue with the save, but the automated
Front Page insert will not work.

I know this has happened to others, because I saw the same
question on another site, but no one came back with an
answer. Any here?

Close FrontPage. Find and delete all files named *.web then reopen FrontPage and see if it works.

Thanks I'm going to give it a try with a search from the
wwwroot directory. I hope that is where to start.

Use windows search. The *.web files need to be deleted from the client.

those .web files are in the wwwroot and part of the system
in a cashe. Are you sure I should delete them?

Yes. FrontPage will recreate them.

However, leave them in recycle until it does. ( It's never failed for me )

Web cache files (*.web) should never be in your server root at wwwroot
- they are local user PC client web cache files in
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
