I have a notebook computer with the following setup.

Win 2K with sp4.
Visual Studio 6, sp2
MS Office 2000

This machine is a new setup. I recently, re-formatted the hard drive and installed a fresh Win2k.

Now when I start MS Word 2000, I receive this error

In a box labeled Microsoft Visual Basic
Compile Error in hidden module, WinfaxPrintandMerge.

However, I don't have WinFax installed on this computer.

Thanks for your help.

Hi!
In a box labeled Microsoft Visual Basic
Compile Error in hidden module, WinfaxPrintandMerge.

However, I don't have WinFax installed on this computer.

You actually might have WinFax (at least a subset of it) installed on your
computer. Outlook has fax send and receive capabilities that are provided by
a somewhat integrated version of WinFax.

IIRC this component is part of a default installation. I always remove
it--real fax machines work better anyway and are a little easier to replace
if lightening bites them.

Check in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Office 2000 Disk 1 > Outlook
and see if the Winfax parts have been installed. Go ahead and remove them if
they are there.
