Hello,
I have a computer with Windows Me. When I launch Internet Explorer, a dialog
box appears with the following message, "Explorer has caused an error in
SHPRRPRT.DLL Explorer will now close.
How can this be fixed? Or do I need to re-install Windows?

Thanks,
JA

Hi Ramesh

I too have received a friend's PC that is doing similar. On launching
Windows Explorer (Windows key + E, or via any route) I get the the same error
message as JA noted below on opening his Internet Explorer. I had already
found the link to the Hotbar and followed the Trend instruction for removing
all traces of it. However, the problem persists. Is it likely that
explorer.exe has been "modified" by this Adware software so that it is
requiring a function from the shprrprt.dll that for whatever reason is now
failing. It is basically is making the PC fairly unusable as Control Panel no
longer works too. I have had to disable all automatic program starting on PC
startup at the moment otherwise the PC locks up when it starts launching the
programs, pressumably because one tries to use something that is failing
?Curiously, by manually opening something like Microsoft WORD and using file
open, then it is possible to "explorer" the various drives and directories.
Should we be replacing explorer.exe and if so where can it be obtained ?

PA2H,

Explorer.exe is not modified by this AdWare, but adds Browser Helper Objects
which attaches to iexplore.exe and explorer.exe Processes. Run these
cleaners:

1. Ad-Aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

2. SpyBot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org

3. CWShredder

Update 1 & 2 before running a scan.

Clean-up Windows Startup:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/startup.htm

Then, run a full system virus scan with fully updated definitions. Try Trend
Micro's Sysclean package (free), it's capable of eliminating keyloggers,
trojans etc.
