Just bought a new PC with Windows XP. Was working just fine until I started
to install new programmes (games for the children, modem, braodband, etc). Now
when I switch the PC on an 'error screen' appears. It informs me that I may
need a windows update, that I should remove a newly installed programme in
order to protect windows. Only problem is that it doesn't tell me which new
programme is causing the problem. Do I need to uninstall all the new
programmes that I have downloaded????
Many thanks

1. Check with Windows Update for that you have all necessary updates
installed.
2. Scan your computer for viruses and other malware. Get Ad-aware
(http://www.lavasoft.com) and see "List of Antivirus Software Vendors"

Hi,

Easier method:

How to Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows XP [Q310560]

Once you have the program isolated, then we might be able to figure out how
to fix it.
