Try taking the computer out of the domain, and putting it
in WORKGROUP. Next reboot the machine. When it comes up,
rename the machine to the new naming convention. Reboot.
Lastly, rejoin your domain with your domain credentials.
This should solve your problem. Its is long and drawn out
but it is the only way to be sure. Good Luck.

If this doesn't work, what do i do then? It didn't work
for me...

First thing I would check is your DNS settings. If you are using your ISP's
DNS in your machines' IP properties, this can cause this error. They need to
be removed and only use your internal DNS that hosts the AD zone name only.

You want to check and make sure once the above is true, that the SRV records
exist under your domain name in your DNS. This is what it's looking for when
querying domain information.

Another thing you may want to look at is if you have a single label domain
name (domain rather than the necessary "domain.com"). This will be an issue
if SP4 was applied. See this article if this is your case:

Configure a forwarder for efficient Internet resolution.
Here's how to configure a forwarder. If the option is grayed out, delete the
root zone. This will show how:
