Error Regarding: Safely Remove Hardware

Sunny

When I get ready to remove a thumb drive from a USB port and double-click on
the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the system tray and then click on
"Stop" and then "OK", I get a "System Beep" sound from my speakers and may
or may not get an error message which reads: 'An exception occurred while
trying to run "shell32.dll,Control_RunDll hotplug.dll".'

This same error now happens on all of my Windows XP Home Edition computers,
but never happened before the this month's critical updates were installed.
I attempted to install an updated driver for the thumb drive, but Windows
could not locate one on-line. Does anyone know what to do about this??

Did you try rolling back your system to a date prior to the last updates
using system restore?

No, I would not want to expose my computer(s) to the risk of going online
without the latest critical updates.

Then disconnect and roll back, then see if the issue repeats.

If it does not repeat we know it is an update and you can re-apply the
updates
