Hi,
recently I saved a file to my jump drive. When I attempted to open the file
today I received a message saying word experienced an error trying to open
your document. When I tried to open it with the recover from text and with
the open and repair option I just keep getting the same error box.
Is there anyway of recovering this file? Does word save any kind of back up
or anything on the hard drive? Help!!!!!! This file was a fairly big project
for school and I really don't want to have to start all over.
Thanks,

Did you save it directly to the jump drive from Word? Did you try to open it
directly from Word, or did you copy it to your hard drive, first?

If you saved it directly from Word to the jump drive, there's an excellent
chance that it became corrupted. That's why MVPs probably sound like broken
records on this & other newsgroups urging users NOT to save directly to
removable media. It's the #1 cause of document corruption. Always save the
file to your hard drive, then close Word, and then use Windows Explorer to
copy the file to the jump drive. Reverse the process when you want to edit
something on the jump drive.

If you didn't already try this... use Windows Explorer to copy the file to
your hard drive (if there's an existing version of the document on your hard
drive, don't copy the jump drive version over it... either rename the hard
drive version or put the copied version into a different folder).

If it doesn't work once copied to your hard drive, recovery options might be
limited. Look for files named Backup of [name of original file].wbk.
