Error on Send To (as attachment)

C

Chris Johnson

When I try to use the Send To (As attachment)
functionality in Excel 2000, I always get "General Mail
Failure. Quit Excel, Restart Mail system and try
again". And of course trying this gives me no joy, just
the same message.

I have seen some other posts about this, and the solution
in that case was related to mailbox limits, but I have
loads of space left. Can anyone offer an alternate
solution??

Many thanks in advance

Thanks for the suggestion. No joy I'm afraid with that,
but I am using Outlook as the mail client and not OE.
Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Chris

You can try to register OE again(see this example for OE)

Go to Start | Run and type the following:
"C:\PROGRAM FILES\OUTLOOK EXPRESS\MSIMN.EXE" /reg
(Check the path to msimn.exe to make sure that is correct)

Run this macro Chris and post back with the result

Sub test()
'This example displays the name of the mail system that's installed on the
computer.
Select Case Application.MailSystem
Case xlMAPI
MsgBox "Mail system is Microsoft Mail"
Case xlPowerTalk
MsgBox "Mail system is PowerTalk"
Case xlNoMailSystem
MsgBox "No mail system installed"
End Select
End Sub

Ron, the result of the macro is Microsoft Mail. I have
looked at your site, and tried all of your suggestions on
that page, but without success.

To give you more info, I am running Excel 2000 (SP3) and
Outlook 2003.

Thanks again!

Maybe you could try:

windows start button|settings|control panel|internet options|programs tab
(My win98 path to this location)

Do you have Outlook as your email program?

If yes, can you change it to something else, hit apply and then change it back
to outlook?

Hi Chris

There are problems with office 2000 /Outlook 2003

Error <Excel could not start the E-mail program>
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;828509

If you want to send the selection in the body of the mail in Excel 2000 or 2002.
(File>Send To...Mail recipient or use the E-Mail button on the Standard toolbar)
And have Outlook 2003 as your default mail program then
Excel will tell you this <Excel could not start the E-mail program>

The Outlook version and the Office version must be the same to send
in the body of the mail.

But I never hear about attachment problems
The error you get I only see with the Beta version of Outlook 2003
