Error on "mailto;" links with IE 6

Hi All,
I have a user that's getting the error:
"Counld not perform this operation because the default
mail client is not properly installed" when they try to
click a mailto: link. We use OL2000, and it's installed
and configured, and IE is set to use Outlook (not Outlook
Express) for email. I can use the menu or menu bar to
compose a new email message and it opens OL2000 as
expected. Did a seach on the knowledge base, and got
nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help!!!!

Hello,
No, MSN 8 is not and as far as I know, was not installed.
This is a brand new machine I setup yesterday. The user
had installed RealPlayer and all of it's associated
garbage, and I uninstalled it.

Slipstick had this article as well:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813745

I'm going to try clearing the registry and letting OL2000
rebuild it.

I'll post if that works or not.

Hello,
I have the same issues on a few clients machine as well.
If you reinstall Outlook you will see this disappear.
However, this is just a work around and not a permanent
solution. I have seen this error message re-appear on some
cases. I am trying to investigate a permanent solution to
this problem.

Outlook and Outlook Express are different programs. I suggest that you ask
in an Outlook newsgroup:

Hi, and Thank you!
I deleted the OL2000 registry key, and did a detect and
repair. Then I rebooted and that fixed the issue.

Thanks again!!!!
