Error on Log off. USRprbdA.exe

Steve

I was getting an error message pop up on shut down which seems to relate to
my winfax modem.

It started a few months ago and the only way to prevent it was by removing
the entry from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Name : USRpdA
Value: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\USRmlnkA.exe RunServices \Device\3cpipe-USRpdA

However this means that the modem failed to work and I resolved to live with
the minor irration.

I've now had to performed a fresh install of windows (due to a new hard
drive) and the error message disappeared. That is until I started adding all
the windows updates. Now the message is back, but I'm unable to say exactly
which update caused it's reappearance.

From the 'Event Viwer' I get the following:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: Application Popup
Event Category: None
Event ID: 26
Date: 21/09/2007
Time: 11:35:46
User: N/A
Computer: DAD
Description:
Application popup: USRprbdA.exe - DLL Initialization Failed : The
application failed to initialize because the window station is shutting
down.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Can anyone help?

Steve

I had the same problem and went to Spybot, advanced mode, system internals and unchecked the box in the Registry page for the USRprbda file and this seems to fix my problem JackE
