error on desktop and MSFirewall deactivated

Hi All!
When I installed the spyware programme, scanned for
spyware and rebooted the computer an error is now
displayed on the desktop until you click o.k and it
says "C\PROGA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2DLL".
I noticed the programme removed a threat called "NewDotNet
Plug-in" and is an Internet Explorer redirection plug-in
that adds subdomains of new.net to your resolution system
(Windows Host file), resulting in what appears to be extra
top-level domains. Threat High.
Not a clue what this means but also noticed that MS
Firewall has also been deactivated and refuses to
switch "on" again.
Any of you kind whiz kids know how to resolve these
problems.
Many Thanks
Donny

should take care of the firewall issue, which is a result of removing the
critter which is leaving that other remnant on the desktop.

To remove that remnant, I've heard that a subsequent scan with Microsoft
Antispyware will remove this trace--I'd love to have confirmation of that.

Hi Bill
Thank you very much for assisting with this problem (your
a genius).
As you said another scan did remove it and the Firewall
problem was resolved using the link provided for Winsock
reset. Working normally again.

Thanks again

Donny

Great--and sorry for the poor experience. There is a great deal going on
when you hit that Remove button. Microsoft understands that the experience
of losing network connectivity is not what the customer is expecting, and I
expect to see some modification to this behavior in the future. (i.e they
know you are having a bad eXPerience now, and expect to be able to do it
better!)
