"error! no sequence specified" in textbox in footer - filename

I am using a template with a text box in the footer and the field "filename".
Once saved as a document and the field updated (F9) I get the error above.

Sounds like you've got a SEQ field there. Alt+F9 to display field codes and
figure out what you're actually dealing with.

{FILENAME \*MERGEFORMAT } shows up when I Alt+F9 it. Does anyone know why
the field get the error message on the first page of the document only?

I suspect much of the problem is concerned with the use of a text box. Text
boxes are in the drawing layer of the document and can behave oddly with
fields. If you want the field in a box, change the text box to a frame or
replace it with a table cell.
