Error msg - crashing browser

K

Kaleygh

I am receiving the following error message while online gaming:
"Viewport.cpp (line286) GetDeviceCaps err, adapter has no HAL-support value".
I have been unable to find a solution anywhere. The site uses both Flash
and Shockwave, and until a week ago, I had no problems whatsoever. This
error occurs in both IE and Firefox. I have WinXP HE, SP3, have updated
flash and shockwave, ran DirectX tests, ran all Microsoft security updates.
If anyone has an idea about what is causing this default, I would be
sincerely grateful. Thanks!

I read the hijack and
nothing eluded to
the browsers being
hijacked.

but there is in line O2
the mention of mcafee.

and it also seems you
have CAV as well.

so here are my suggestions
to see if the issue can be
resolved:

firstly, do a clean boot.

run>msconfig

then under start ups
disable all of them,
jotting down which
ones they were.

then under services,
"hide" microsoft svc's
and disable what remains.

jotting down those as
well.

then reboot and see if
your problem is solved.

if not, then

secondly, boot up into
safemode w/networking
and see if the problem
exists in that environment.

to access safemode simply
hold down the f8 key
during boot up to bring
up the special boot menu.
