Could be a keyboard problem, or:

I had some similar problems with updates. After ripping
just about all of my hair out trying again and again, and
believe me, with a dialup modem, it takes a couple of
hours each time, I tried a different approach. I wrote
down all of the ID numbers of the critical updates it
suggested after the scan. Then I went to the "personalize
Windows updates" section, selected to be able to veiw the
updates catalog, and went to the catalog. I selected the
find updates for the OS, clicked the OS that was mine,
clicked on critical updates and service packs and search
and selected the downloads it suggested. After
downloading all of them to a folder I created, I burned
them onto a CD. They seemed to install fine from the
folder, or the CD, and when I went back to check the
update page, it showed I didn't need to download and
install them again, because it had now worked. I hope
this helps. I know I am a bit long winded, but I like to
explain things in plain English, rather than "download to
the 5w0990awetgbnawoldbtng file and extract the
extraprolaneous infattlebottom files to the roratractory
registy", or the like...LOL
