My firend believes that I have a memory problem. According to 'event viewer'
a database engine stopped. When playing the game(half life2), after a few
mins the game freezes and a pop up dialog box says: -

The instruction at "0x241f8977" referenced memory at "0x01b7f5c0".
The memory could not be "read".
Click ok to terminate the program.

I've rolled back my video drive - no use
I've run scan disk - no use

I just installed a new power supply unit into my computer because the older
one was overheating when i played 3d-intensive games, such as half life 2,
due to the fan not working in it. I believe i've wired it up correctly, and
that this is a software problem.

Not sure what a "firend" is . . .

Anyhow, it's not uncommon for an overheated power supply
to cause other components to fail, like RAM, which is
particularly sensitive to the supplied voltage. Also it's
possible that the motherboard has a problem due to the
overheated power supply . . . could be tough to diagnose,
and expensive if you put a new RAM module in and it does
the same thing. If so, did the RAM fail due to a problem
with the motherboard caused by the overheated power supply
or . . .

It may be a software problem, check the software
manufacturer's website for additional information
regarding the problem.

Good Luck !

What is your video card? Does it meet the system requirements for the
game? How much memory do you have? Do you have at least 256MB? Make
sure no extraneous programs or processes are running. Make sure your
computer is not overheating. Have the most recent drivers for your
video and sound cards. Check on Valve's site for tech support, known
issues, and patches.
