I've been receiving the following messages when starting
Outlook:
"An extension failed to initialize. Can't open file:
extend.dat. The file may not exist (etc., etc)

and then this error message:
"The location messages are delivered to has changed for
this user profile. To complete this operation, you may
need to copy the contents of the old Outlook folders to
the new Outlook folders. For information about how to
complete the change of your mail deliver location, see
Microsoft Outlook Help.
"Some of the shortcuts on the Outlook bar may no longer
work. Do you want Outlook to recreate your shortcuts? All
shortcuts you have created will be removed."

I've been clicking past these 2 error messages for quite
a while now. I say "no" to the above one, because
saying "yes" doesn't work anyway.

I've tried searching the Microsoft knowledge base to fix
this problem, I've trying uninstalling and reinstalling
Outlook to fix this. I don't know if the un/reinstall is
not working or what, but I need help! I can follow
directions if someone knows how to fix this. I MUST fix
this, because apparently it affects my ability to filter
Junk Mail too. . . I can't create any Rules. Since I
receive 50 to 100 messages a day, I need to be able to
filter the junk and send some of my other frequent
correspondents' emails to their own Folders
automatically.

Please help?????

Thanks,
Sheri

I do not use OL2002 or XP but I have seen this happen in
OL2000 and the way I resolved the problem was to change
the properties of the personal folders. First, I had to
find on my hard drive the location of the original .pst
file. Next I clicked on Tools, Services (accounts)and
highlighted the personal folders for that profile. I then
clicked on remove. Next I clicked on Add and choose
Personal Folders to create a new one and then OK. It will
prompt you for the location of a .pst file so just
navigate to the location where you have your original .pst
file and click on open. Exit and re-open OL and it should
find your previous emails. Let me know if that worked for
you.
