error messages when burning and verifying

data and music files on my WinXP machine when using Nero, WMP and COWON Media
Center software. Dell seems to think it a problem with the IMAPI CD-Burning
Com Service. they told me to backup my data and reinstall WinXP again and
that should fix it.

does this sound right?

my biggest problem seems to be when trying to verifying the data. music and
Nero burns it to a CD/DVD. it gives me a KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR and read errors
from from various sectors

thanks,

What happen if you Disabled this service in services control panel by doing
this:
Open a run command and type in:
services.msc click [OK]
On the services control panel Disable this service:
IMAPI
Close the services ctrl and reboot your machine and see if the burning goes
okay.
Does the Nero up2date, if not run the update from Nero site.
HTH.

thanks nass, I got the same error message a couple of times and was able to
burn one cd without the error after I disabled this service. could this
service this problem? I really think it's the drive and have the feeling I'm
fighting with Dell on them replacing it.

Hi Steve,
No i don't think it is Hard drive and you can be sure by running the HDD
diagnostic tools and check the health of your HDD.
It is mainly a compatibility issue among software drivers!.
Try to update the Nero software and other software on your system.
