danny

i get an error messsge as follows:-
your computer does not support the required compression.
i get this when trying to use voice on a particular
instant messenger.
it works fine on one instant messenger but i get this on
the other.
can anybody help please i think it may be refering to
audio codecs but i have the standard ones installed from
the xp disc.
many thanks.

Are you unable to give any useful details, like which IM
programs, what compression method, and why you think this is
an XP hardware problem.

.yes sorry but i did'nt mention other brand names cos i
did'nt think it was allowed.
ok the messenger i have no problem with is msn.
the one i have a problem with is yahoo it says something
about needs a truespeech codec.
the problem isnt on this pc its on a friends i have the
identical setup and it works fine on mine.
the way i understood it it was automatically installed on
the pc when the installation disc is installed thats why
im assumed it must be a hardware issue.

Sounds like you need to reinstall the Yahoo IM client on
your friends computer.
