Error message

Upon startup i get the message in a box saying install, could not communicate
with network server, error 1 with the option to abort or retry. The message
dissapers only when i click abort. then there's no problem. how can i stop
this message comming up? thanx

You obviously have something starting with Windows that is looking for a
server. You will need to find out what that is. Do some clean boot
troubleshooting:

Check if your PC is having mapped drives on the network which aren't
available anymore, but had the check box "Re-connect at logon" checked when
created. Other wise (if you have the prof edition of XP) check if the
machine was made member of a domain...

It's always a good idea to check for spyware/adware or viruses though. This
also might be the root of your problem...

Lemme know if any of these suggestions worked, as this was just a guessing
session :)
