Ask the administrator. Some restrictions have apparently been placed
on your computer usage.

Good luck

I am logged on as the administrator, but have no idea how access to the CD
drive has been prohibited. The question is - how do I restore access?
Can't find any mention in the boks.

I've also had this problem, i am the admin on my computer and haven't
touched the admin settings, and am getting exactly the same message as laurie
Barlow. I cannot find any settings that can affect this in the admin tools
in control panel, or any other menu. Please advise!

Well, at least I know I am not alone. All of my removable media drives are
affected by this problem. Drives all appear greyed out with a big red slash
in a circle over them (what do you call that international 'forbidden'
symbol?)
Windows XP Home SP2. Problem seemed to have started while I was installing
video drivers from CD for a newly upgraded video card.
This would help if I had vista and group policy. Not on xp home…

I tried delete the devices and allow them to be re-discovered. they
disappeared completely, until I logged in as Admin on safe mode, when they
came back in same state.
Has anybody figured out a way out of this mess? in place upgrade? System
Restore?

I am hesitating to try system restore because I would have to go back to a
state before the new video card.
Thanks for any advice.

I also had this problem and found on another site where awserve.exe might be
courrupted. I resolved this issue by removing the Intel Desktop Unitilies
package from my system and doing a fresh install by downloading from the
Intel website.
