Error Message - "You have to be Administrator to ---"

Would appreciate help on following problem in XP.

I think I have XP SP1. I am the adminatrator on the desktop computer.
However, I am now getting messages that I can run recently installed programs
even though I installed them in my account which is an administrator account.
I am wondering if a recent microsoft update caused this problem. If it did,
I don't know how to find it or remove it. Perhaps the best solution would be
to change some kind of setting but I don't know what to change.

Thanks for your comments and responsese

To determine what Service Pack level you have, go to Control
Panel>System>General tab and look. If you don't have SP2, you need to
get it. Do not install SP2 without proper preparation.

Follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist -

Best Practices

As for your problem, I doubt this has anything to do with Windows
Updates. We don't really have enough information about your computer to
give focused help. See this link for what you should include in your
next post:

In the meantime, answer these two questions:

The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't?

The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the
malware/virus status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what
programs (and versions) did you use to determine this?

Be sure the computer is clean:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

If the machine is clean and you really don't know if anything has
changed, you may try a System Restore if the change was within the last
few days or so. Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore -
"Restore my computer to an earlier time".

Malke,
Thanks for your response, it was very informative.

I do have XP SP2. It is a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop computer with 1GB
RAM.

I experienced the problem upon installation of Data Pilot software for cell
phones. Later, I installed 2 other program (a Spanish Language program and
nature encylopeida) to test to see if I got the same message, "You must be an
administator to run...". This programs ran okay so far, no messages when I
launch the programs.

I removed Windows update KB933729, then reinstalled Data Pilot with the same
results. So I re-installed KB933729.

I use McAfee virus software and my computer is "clean".

If you have any more suggestions, I would appreciate your help.

Since the problem occurred after you installed Data Pilot, I'd uninstall
it (and the other two programs you installed afterwards). Then I'd do a
System Restore to before the Data Pilot installation. Then check on Data
Pilot's website or with their tech support to see if there are any known
issues.
